Andrew Schouwstra
Co-founder of Against The Grain Outdoors, Andrew is our one-of-a-kind chainsaw carving artist and the hands-on heart of the team! It all began in 2021 when he stumbled upon a YouTube video of someone chainsaw carving and thought, “Maybe I should try that.” With work slowing down at his construction job, he picked up a chainsaw—and quickly discovered he was a natural. Today, Andrew ensures every carving is crafted to the highest standard, bringing skill, detail, passion, and creativity to each piece.
Shannon Schouwstra
Creating this business with her husband Andrew has been an incredible journey! Shannon works hand-in-hand with Andrew to ensure every customer’s vision comes to life. She’s the friendly voice answering your questions, managing social media, and keeping all projects on schedule. You’ll often spot her at markets and onsite carvings, helping Andrew wherever she can and sharing the joy of their handcrafted chainsaw carvings and outdoor sculptures with the community!
Cooper
Cooper is Against The Grain Outdoors’ number one supporter! He gives his paw of approval to all the spare sticks his pawrents, Andrew and Shannon, bring around. Cooper also loves greeting both new and returning customers who come by for their local pick-ups—he’s always ready to make a tail-wagging welcome!
